*Dynamic Debugging: Pain-free Production Troubleshooting
Stuff happens. No matter how perfectly your code is written, there will still be a bug somewhere. And sometimes, it can only be reproduced in Production. When it rears its ugly head, begging for downtime while you recompile production packages is anathema. Ideally, your code is instrumented such that you can gain immediate visibility into the problem. Yet that instrumentation is costly overhead best left out of production code. What to do?
Come examine a method of dynamic debugging, a piece of a small, open-source PL/SQL application framework, that yields well-commented, fully-instrumented backend code that can be switched on in Production for a given user, session, PL/SQL unit, list of units, or the entire schema. If you have created something similar in your Oracle shop, come critique the approach. Your suggestions and ideas may help to improve the open source software on which it is based.
