Session Title: Trace File Analyzer (TFA) Suite Deep Dive and New Features

Presenter: Sean Scott

Organization: Vitalize

Session Date: August 30th

Session Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm

Session Abstract:

Oracle's Trace File Analyzer is a robust suite of tools capable of capturing incident diagnostics and database and operating system metrics, identifying system changes and providing analysis of logs to improve troubleshooting and event resolution. It's lightweight, cluster aware and suitable for standalone and RAC databases and engineered systems. Originally designed to supplement log and data collection when creating service requests, TFA has become the preferred tool for collecting files and diagnostics for troubleshooting issues with Oracle Support on Unix and Linux platforms and in mid-2017 added support for Windows systems. The latest version,, is a milestone release that includes new data collection options, notifications, new cluster and log management features and a new menu-driven interface.

Service requests created via TFA are resolved more quickly and now database administrators working on all major platforms can take advantage of TFA's Service Request Diagnostic Collection (SRDC) to automate and expedite the SR process with Oracle Support Services.

Following a brief introduction to TFA and its use cases this session will discuss installation, upgrade, configuration and customization of TFA, an overview of the command set and new menu options, then dive into demonstrations of:

* The core diagnostic collection (SRDC) features of TFA, from basic to advanced.

* TFA new features including the SUMMARY command, log management, incident reporting and the new SRDC options for collecting diagnostics for upgrades and patching.

* Managing the TFA repository.

* Performing full lifecycle health checks within TFA.

* Configuring and using Remote Diagnostic Agent (RDA) integrations within TFA.

* Supplemental tools for analysis, discovery and troubleshooting databases, clusters and environments—ORATOP, OSWATCHER and PROCWATCHER.

* Redacting sensitive data within TFA.

* Using the SQL Test Case Builder to aid Oracle Support during investigation of database and performance issues.
