    This position supports a department or function by performing assigned tasks or assisting with assigned projects, allowing the intern to gain an understanding of the business function.

    Essential Job Duties

    ·         1. Participates and is involved in a variety of projects that support the needs of the department / facility. Works with the members of the team to identify solutions and perform tasks that accomplish individual and team goals.

    ·         2. Attends team / department meetings and actively participate / take on opportunities to share knowledge and skills that are pertinent to the meeting.

    ·         3. Gains knowledge of the department's / facilities functions. May job shadow various roles within the department in order to understand their role in the organization.

    ·         4. Works with other members of the department / facility to accomplish assigned tasks.

    ·         5. Project Assistance: May be assigned one or more specific projects during the internship. Demonstrates an understanding of the process and accountability for the results / outcomes. Works independently or as a member of a team to accomplish the tasks necessary to successfully complete the project. Involves others when needed in a timely manner and work to meet project timelines.

    6. Miscellaneous: Provides staff operational / clerical support to the department / facility as needed.

    Job Summary

    The Sr Data Warehouse Developer/Analyst is a new position in the Office of Budget and Institutional Analysis at the University of Utah. This is a senior role for experienced data warehouse professionals. We are looking for someone that can bring their knowledge of data warehouse design, methodologies and techniques to our projects, and mentor and assist other team members in developing SQL, ETL, the meta data layer and data quality measures.

    The ideal person will care about designing meaningful data transformations, ensuring quality data, building sustainable code, and understand strategies to meet these objectives.

    This role will partner closely with the University’s central IT department that manages the campus enterprise data warehouse. The incumbent will have a primary role in building, testing and maintaining the meta data layer of our data warehousing environment, data management processes, and upstream ETL’s, with a supporting role across our end-to-end BI delivery, including requirements solicitation, business analysis, logical and physical design, report and dashboard development.

    Responsibilities

    The primary responsibilities of this position will include:

    • Create and maintain tables, queries, views, procedures, packages, indexes, functions, triggers.
    • Write sql procedures and scripts to carry out data audits and manage data cleanup.
    • Build, test and maintain extract, transform, load processes.
    • Solve complex technical problems.
    • Help design data models that simplify reporting and support front-end BI reporting tools.
    • Create, maintain and advocate for strong data dictionary, requirements, design and process documentation.
    • Carry out, share, and guide other team members in the practical application of data warehousing tools, concepts and best practices.
    • Build collaborative working relationships with IT, campus administrative offices, internal developers and analysts, and others to serve as an effective liaison between teams.
    • Serve as a leader in researching and adopting new tools and technologies.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of specialty or equivalency and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

    Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

    Preferences
    • 4-6+ years of progressively responsible data warehouse orETLdevelopment experience, with at least 2 of those years in a role with significant data analysis or report development responsibilities.
    • ExpertSQLskills, experience in Oracle Database 12c, OracleSQLDeveloper and InformaticaETLis a plus.
    • Experience transforming large, complex, unstructured data into denormalized star or snowflake schemas.
    • Working knowledge of leading data warehouse methodologies such as Kimball or Inmon.
    • Strong communication and documentation skills.
    • A Master’s degree inMISor related field.
    • Experience with higher education data such as student, faculty, HR and finance.
    • Experience with institutional research, including state and federal reporting such asIPEDS, and national surveys.
    • Background in PeopleSoft, Tableau,SAPBusiness Objects Web Intelligence, or similar systems and BI Tools.

    Principal Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

    • Develop Oracle PL/SQL ETL to support data warehouse and datamarts

    Requirements:

    • Experience developing product/solutions using Oracle SQL and PL/SQL. MS SQL Server experience helpful.
    • Knowledge of dimensional modelling and experience building reports in MicroStrategy (9.3.1 or above) or any other BI reporting tool
    • Experience working with large data
    • Extensive knowledge in relational database design
    • Strong healthcare analysis background and experience preferred
    • 3+ years of SQL, PL/SQL, BI, SSRS and/or other report writing experience is required
    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
    • Familiarity with Agile methodologies preferred
    • Critical thinker with strong analytical and problem solving skills
