Come join us for a combination presentation and discussion on indexing strategies. Some that work and some that you want to avoid. Some of the topics include:

Tips for teaching your developers about common indexing myths

Methods to interrogate the Oracle dictionary to find candidate indexing columns

Indexing identity columns (sequentially increasing identifiers) to avoid contention

Dropping indexes for bulk loads

With all of these strategies, we encourage sharing your insights beyond what is presented so we can all learn.

Steve Catmull is a Senior Data Architect at Intermountain Healthcare. He has extensive experience and understanding of performance in Oracle data warehousing and reporting environments. His database fascination started in the early 80s with dBASE III and did not become a career until a decade later when he joined Intermountain and started exploring Oracle 7. Prior to Intermountain Healthcare, Steve worked in the Bulletin Board System industry. Each year he presents at the Utah Oracle User Group events. He has learned from many and hopes to teach many.
