Oracle Internet Directory is an extremely useful tool for the DBA to interface with LDAP repositories such as IBM OpenLDAP, Novell eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory. OID is useful for managing multiple databases from a single LDAP repository. It can be used for TNS name resolution from a single repository instead of tnsnames.ora files on lots of different servers. It can be used for user authentication from a single repository using a single userid/password for users who access lots of databases. It can be used to manage global users and roles from a single repository. However, installation and setup of OID can be a challenge. In this SIG session we will be talking about OID installation/configuration and features and how to interface it to an LDAP repository.
