BI: "Novel Ways to Visualize and Explore Information"

Agenda:

"Novel Ways to Visualize and Explore Information" - Yarden Livnat, Research Scientist for the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah
Effectively Using Your Brain's Visualization Processor for Tables of Data - Alan Winters, Sr. Product Manager and clinician for Corda Technologies
Review of Data Visualization techniques in BI SIG users' reports (a case study and discussion)
This BI SIG's focus is on data visualization. We will first hear from a researcher at the U of U about what he's found in his research about data visualization.

Then, Alan Winters, Sr. Product Manager and clinician for Corda Technologies will present to us on why some tables of report data are difficult to read while other tables show you just what you are looking for. When tables are presented in the right way, the brain can almost instantaneously "see" what is being presented. The wrong visualization will require much more effort for the brain to process and gain understanding. Learn how to design the visual display of data in tables so you can best highlight and communicate the most important aspects of your data and reduce time spent iterating over business reporting and analytic requirements.

We will then spend some time reviewing the business requirements and implementation of reports that BI SIG members have created. This will be a practical way to apply what we have learned about data visualization.
