From Relational to Hadoop: Data Transformation and Archival

One of the most common Hadoop deployments in the modern enterprise IT is side by side with a Data Warehouse offloading data transformational workload (ETL), archival data, exploratory analytics and even some of BI reporting. This workshop will introduce Hadoop to Oracle Database professionals and provide hands-on experience loading data in Hadoop from various sources, performing variety of transformations, managing workflows in Hadoop, loading data into Data Warehouse, archiving data from Oracle to Hadoop and accessing it directly from Oracle database, basic data exploration examples as well as using real-time query engines to access Hadoop data directly from BI tools. We will be working with variety of tools such Hive, Flume, Impala, Oozie, HUE, Sqoop, Oracle Big Data SQL and etc.

This full day workshop is a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises designed specifically for experienced Oracle Database professionals. To follow practical labs, attendees are required to bring a laptop with any operating system. The laptop should be WiFi enabled and have SSH client (like Putty for Windows) as well as a web browser (Google Chrome is preferred). Hadoop servers will be hosted in the cloud so no additional software needs to be installed on the laptops. Attendees can choose to work in pairs on a single laptop – they have to agree between themselves in advance.

This workshop is free for UTOUG members and lunch will be provided. This workshop is limited to the first 50 attendees who register.
